Messy Kennedy

Around here life is crazy, messy and we love every minute!

These Boots

A shoeaholic is what I am. But if I could only choose one pair of shoes to wear for the rest of my life it would be easy to pick. I would choose my cowboy boots without a second thought.

Thanksmas, Yes There is Such a Thing

Thanksmas; nope, it’s not a spelling error.  I didn’t even make the word up.  In the north putting Thanksgiving and Christmas together is a common occurrence.  That way the retired members of the family can go to the south and avoid as much of Michigan winter as possible. Todays is Thanksmas on my father’s side of the family.  We will have presents, food and family.  There’s not much better than this!  I hope everyone continues to enjoy the holiday season and I will catch up more next week!

Food Thanks from a Michigan Farmer

Today, I am in a mood to be thankful.  I got a reality check and realized I am just as guilty as anyone of taking for granted all that we have.  Since tomorrow is the official day for Food Thanks throughout social media I would like to show what I personally am thankful for. I am thankful for a career that I am passionate about.  With this passion, I have been able to be successful and not have to worry about money.  My hard work has payed off each day in helping farmers to produce food and to produce food… Read More

Holiday Spirit and Cheer

Yes, my title sounds like a Dr. Seuss rhyme.  But in the spirit of the holidays, my poll is going to be about which is your favorite holiday.  Before I get into this week’s poll, I would like to thank everyone that voted in my poll last week.  The pretty handy winner was the Jersey, which I do have to say I was happy about.

Giving Thanks and Giving Away

Farmers are constantly giving. They are giving their time to the land and animals. They are constantly giving up their family time to work and chores. They are giving a lot of the worlds people nourishment but also realize millions go to bed hungry each night. They also give little parts of their profits away each year because they are the “low man on the todum pole”.

Occupational Hazards: Manure and Little Hooves

Today was like any other day on a farm.  I experienced the two typical occupational hazards we experience on a daily basis… cow manure and hooves.  My job today was to measure and weigh heifer calves.  Sadly, karma was working against us and the heifers got the best of us.

The Price of Freedom

There are many things we all take for granted.  One of the biggest ones, is our freedom.  I will admit, some days I take it for granted too.  I forget that it hasn’t always been acceptable to be a woman working in agriculture.

Jerseys, Holsteins, Swiss and Reds… Oh My!

My poll this week has to do with the breed lessons I have been giving.  This week, I would like to know which of the breeds is your favorite, so far.  Check out my four previous posts to learn more about each breed. Choice A: Jersey Choice B: Holstein Choice C: Brown Swiss Choice D: Red and Whites
