Around here life is crazy, messy and we love every minute!

The Most Important Woman in My Life… My Mother

Like most other young women in my career field we find the acceptance, support and lessons from our parents to be essential. They are something we never could have gotten where we are without. This is very true in my personal case, and this is especially true for my mother.

The matriarch of our family, our mother and father.

The matriarch of our family, our mother and father.

I’ve talked about how my father taught me everything I know about cows.  He showed me how to identify sick cows, he showed me how to grow crops (even though I still can’t keep a house plant alive) and when he tells me I did a good job in a situation on the farm, it means more to me than I can explain.  My mother is still tied with my father in importance in my life.

My mother and I have a special relationship, it’s far from perfect, we still snap at each other on a testy day. But we have a bond that goes much deeper than some other mother-daughter relationships I’ve seen. My father is the one that gave me my love of cows, he’s taught me a lot of what I know and I’m his princess. But my mother’s place in my heart is different, and that makes her the most important woman in my life.

Part of the reason why she’s my idol is because she didn’t grow up on a farm. My mom was actually the mayor’s daughter of our little town. Not that being the mayor’s daughter of a town named Ubly makes you such a city girl. All the same, she never had any experience with farms or animals. Other than taking care of my grandfather’s hunting dogs. When she married my father she had a lot to learn. Today, she is one of the key decision makers on our farm. Her and my father consult each other on every decision. My mother is actually the main person for training and dealing with the employees on our farm. If you saw her out on the farm today, you would never know she didn’t grow up working on a dairy.

Her example taught me about a good work ethic.  She’s also the person I get my blunt way of speaking from.  So, thanks for everything you have done for me Mom!  You rock!

Beautiful photo of the two of you together! I envy your relationship with your mom. Sounds like you are closer than most friends are today out there in the real world. That is a heart warming and endearing goal to shoot for with my own children! She sure is an inspiration to follow!

      Doreen,

Thank you so much for the post. I love that picture of us too, it was taken during my senior picture shoot. Believe me when I say this, my relationship with my mom hasn’t always been great. When I was a teenager it was awful. It seemed like we couldn’t be in the same room without irritating each other. It surprises the rest of my family that now we’re as close as we are now.
